Description
Introduction
Nipah virus(NiV) is a member of the family Paramyxoviridae, genus Henipavirus. It is a zoonotic virus and can also be transmitted through contaminated food or directly between people.
Human infections range from asymptomatic infection to acute respiratory infection (mild, severe) and fatal encephalitis. The incubation period (interval from infection to the onset of symptoms) is believed to range from 4 to 14 days. However, an incubation period of as long as 45 days has been reported. The case fatality rate is estimated at 40% to 75%.
There is no treatment or vaccine available for either people or animals. Nipah virus infection can be diagnosed with clinical history during the acute and convalescent phases of the disease. The main tests used are real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) from bodily fluids and antibody detection via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).
The BioPerfectus Nipah Virus Real Time PCR Kit, based on real-time PCR technology, for the detection of Nipah virus RNA. Samples can be obtained from human serum, plasma, whole blood, and urine.
Features
- Feasible: compatible with multiple sample types
